Shop stewards are rank-and-file workers who stand up for their co-workers at work.

As a shop steward, you would carry the authority and responsibility of the Union when acting in an official capacity. This makes you the legal equal to store management. Becoming a shop steward is a serious responsibility, you must be trained and appointed by the Greivance Committee and can be removed from your office for any breach of duty. However, being a steward gives you the chance to help your co-workers in a way few can - by enforcing your coworker's statuatory and union rights.
