PRESS RELEASE - New Seasons Labor Union On Strike - Sunday, September 1st

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  - August 26, 2024.

Portland, Oregon. -  On Sunday, September 1st, workers at ten New Seasons Market locations will participate in a one-day Unfair Labor Practice Strike in response to the company's unfair labor practices and bad-faith bargaining. The stores participating in the strike action are:

Arbor Lodge (6400 N Interstate Ave, Portland, OR 97217)

Cedar Hills (3495 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005)

Concordia (5320 NE 33rd Ave, Portland, OR 97211)

Grant Park (3210 NE Broadway, Portland, OR 97232)

Hawthorne (4034 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214)

Sellwood (1214 SE Tacoma St, Portland, OR 97202)

Seven Corners (1954 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202)

Slabtown (2170 NW Raleigh St, Portland, OR 97210)

Woodstock (4500 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland, OR 97206)

Williams (3445 N Williams Ave, Portland, OR 97227)

Since beginning bargaining in 2023, the more than 1,100 workers represented by New Seasons Labor Union have been attempting to reach an agreement with the company on a collective bargaining agreement. Bargaining representatives from the Union say the company is not offering a viable path forward with negotiations and has left their members little choice but to strike.

“We've been bargaining with them for nearly 2 years and have yet to achieve anything substantive for our contract because we've reached [an] impasse on a number of articles. They refuse mediation and refuse to work in good faith with us on this contract” said Maggie Myers, Bargaining Secretary for New Seasons Labor Union.

The Union has filed Unfair Labor Practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board for bad-faith bargaining, unilateral changes to terms and conditions of employment, refusal to furnish information, and coercive rules and statements, among other charges. In response to these issues, workers overwhelmingly voted to authorize strike action. Customers can find out more at NSLU.org.
