At 5:00pm on January 29th 2023, the Slabtown Front End department walked out in protest of unfair labor practices, presenting Slabtown's store manager with the following letter:

Dear Jared and Slabtown Management,

Today we are exercising our protected right to strike, in the form of a walk-off, in protest of the new front end policy regarding cashier rotation. This “safety strategy” puts everyone on an “equal” daily schedule, completely disregarding the physical challenges, mental/neurological limitations, and personal preferences of individual cashiers. The front end is full of unique personalities with diverse needs, and this policy erases the differences that make New Seasons strong - and an enjoyable place to work. Additionally, this change has created a significant amount of extra work and stress for leads and managers as they try to follow this very rigid policy.

This new front end policy is an unfair labor practice, and we demand that management immediately rescind this unilateral change to register assignments. We also demand that management bargain in good faith before implementing changes like this in the future.

Sincerely,

The Front End of Slabtown
